otome project - model by miriamylam otome project - model by miriamylam
This is part 1 of a project I've started with the goal to learn a few 3d modelling, texturing and sculpting skills while incorporating one of my passions into my work, which is j-fashion. This is just a quick render of the base character (who I've just dubbed "otome") wearing a basic blouse and skirt. The plan is to recreate a few of my favourite items or coords and hopefully make some cute pictures on the way.

If you are interested, I will probably be updating my tumblr more often than dA - miriamylam.tumblr.com/

Very nicely done! I like the stylization along with the level of detail. I'm guessing your models are also rigged?

Thank you, and no they are not. I'm still getting the hang of rigging.

Ah alrighty. Well, once you get the hang of that Imma be hitting you up for commissions. I'm working on a few indie games and need low poly rigged models. If you're cool with those kinds of commissions, bout how much do you think you'd charge for per rigged model?

Hard to say for now, I'll have to make a few rigged models to understand how long it takes me. But probably the current price of a sculpt+retopology+$20-$30 for the rigging depending on a number of factors, such as the complexity of the model and rig.

That's actually very fair I think. OH! Also, looked through my old bookmarks and found an autorigger than might help you get started: smartbody.ict.usc.edu/autorigg…

I forgot I had that bookmarked, had meant to download it about two years ago. Maybe it'll be a good starting point for you. Imma play around with it myself.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have a look. Though I think I'd rather learn conventional methods before I start selling :)

This is awesome! I've also recently started making lowpoly characters and I've now found that it's really fun. I thought it'd be impossible at first hahaha

Cool zBrush sculpt. Will you retopo it, and put it in a game engine? Or animate it?
I really love hand-painting the sculpts, but all my friends have been switching over to Substance Painter lately.
Hope your painting process goes well, she looks beautiful.

Its pretty simple. Unity3D is a great engine and free. And it's easy to just apply their 3rd person controllers onto your character, to be able to move. Saves you the work of animating all the basic movements. Or if you just want to see your character move. But you will have to rig and skin the weights on your character in Maya or some program.

I didn't know Unity could do animations for you. I will be sure to try it out, thanks!

Yeah its just cloning over the animations from standard Unity character. Its good for practicing, but you can swap in your own animations later. ^^
